Interval training involves periods of
intense exercise interspersed with periods of lesser intensity
training. Interval training is commonly utilized by
runners and cyclists but can also be useful to athletes in
other sports and for overall fitness and weight loss.
Fitness experts view interval training as an effective means of
promoting fat loss as it raises the resting metabolic rate and
results in improved athletic performance. Interval
training is different than normal cardiovascular routines
where a sustained pace is maintained for an extended period of
time. A variation, high-intensity interval training,
consists of alternating cycles of a two to one ratio of intense
exercise followed by a period of moderate
intenisty.
