Plyometrics are
explosive exercises designed to develop power primarily
for sports where jumping ability and speed are important
(track and field, basketball, volleyball in particular).
Some of the more common plyometric exercises are depth
jumps, bounding, hurdle jumps and jump squats. Plyometric
training consists of explosive movements so only experienced
athletes free of injuries should perform such movements (even
then only with a proper warmup and only on a surface with a
degree of elasticity). Plyometrics develop power rather
than strength so the ideal training regimen for athletes is a
combination of strength training (traditional lower rep weight
training) and plyometric training which aids in converting
maximum force into a rapid and powerful muscular
contraction. For more plyometric exercise videos, visit
